Three rules that prevent re-dos
Don't sign in advance — notaries must watch you sign. Bring government photo ID matching the name on the letter. State facts, not arguments — the notary certifies your identity and signature, and officials downstream want verifiable statements.
Where to get it notarized
Banks (often free for customers), UPS/shipping stores (a few dollars), and online notary platforms (about $25, webcam-based, legal in most states). Same certificate either way.

Does notarizing make my letter 'legal'?
Notarization proves you signed it — it doesn't validate the contents. Truthful, specific content is what gives the letter force.
